Open Quote Feeling the strain? Money worries, relationship problems, body blues? Stress affects our general health and fitness, as well as your looks. Exercise is a known mood-lifter, but if that’s not enough, prescription medicines aren’t your only option. ‘Natural remedies can help beat some of the negative side-effects of stress, ] like digestion problems, mood swings, anxiety, aches and dizziness,’ says Lucy Stephens, Medical Herbalist from London’s Reva clinic (revaclinic.com). Try Lucy’s tips:

Relax tight muscles: ‘Feeling tense? Add rosemary essential oil to a base cream and massage it in. Rosemary is a muscle relaxant that’s used traditionally for sprains and bruises’.
Breathe deeply: ‘Rapid, shallow breaths are a sign of stress. If you start to feel yourself getting anxious, close your eyes, take a deep breath in for a count of five and then out for a count of seven, five times’.
Anxiety relief: ‘Our bodies need a little help sometimes to get back in balance. Herbs such as Passiflora incarnata (passionflower) and Valeriana officinalis have been shown to be effective anti-anxiety herbs and useful for insomnia’. Open Quote
